The focus of the day’s programme will naturally be the official ceremony held from the bandstand, Lions Park. You can’t miss it – the rotunda will be surrounded by the colourful flags of 36 countries courtesy Lions International District 201V5. Australia’s flag will hold pride of place on the flagpole. It will be raised by two grade 6 pupils from Marysville and Buxton PS, to open the proceedings. | |
The affirmation verse will be recited – lead by Councillor Gilmore. “From this time forward I pledge my loyalty to Australia and its people Whose democratic beliefs I share Whose rights and liberties I respect And whose laws I will uphold and obey” Australia day ambassador for 2007 is to be 2006 Commonwealth Games Bronze Medallist - Women's uneven bars, Monette Russo. The head of this family is Marysville’s Rainbow Serpent. (1) Date of birth – 1997 He is very keen to stretch his legs (or yours) again, after hibernating for 4 long years. (2) Rainbow Serpent’s Baby – date of birth 2002 He has appeared in three Australia Day parades already and seems to have been adopted by Marysville Kindergarten. The three year old group of 2005 will help him this year. (3) Rainbow Serpents baby sister will also appear, providing her birth is not too difficult or extended. Confinement should end January 23, 24 or 25th, and hopefully she shall make her first public appearance on Jan 26. All parade entrants (except legs) – please notify David Sebald of your intention prior to the event – phone 5963 3254.
